I'm not into NASCAR, from the south, or a step-sister but I am a reader. I expected to get a few minutes of fluff and smut to liven up my 60 minute lunch break. What I got was more than I ever thought was possible from a book called Gas or Ass. Shelby has flashes of strength and weakness that I wanted to dislike until I remembered she's 17. Being 17 is hard enough on it's own but factor in the life she had and how, in one moment, her mom turned it all upside down I can understand. Not to mention, she's in that not a girl/not a woman phase of life where weakness is normal because everyday is an evolution into the woman you'll someday become. Caine and Colt... I had a love/hate relationship with these two but I see something in Caine. Still waters and all that. Colt is beyond complex and when you think you have him figured out he morphs into someone else. Dale wants so much to have a happy family I think he'd do just about anything. Macy. As a mother she leaves much to be desired. Everything she does seems to be to stave off the empty nest that will come when her daughter leaves and her desperation to please her husband makes her easy to dislike.

I didn't think this book would be very good. I didn't think I'd remember it 5 minutes after I finished it. And yet I couldn't stop reading. I had moments where I had to stop because what was happening was just too much. I had moments where I wanted to stop because I could imagine myself slapping Shelby, Colt, Caine, Macy... take your pick. I had moments where I screamed at my Kindle. Yes people. I was THAT person shouting at fictional characters as if I could save them. Needless to say it took longer than my lunch break but I snuck out my Kindle every chance I got so I could find out what would happen next. The story is so well written and the characters complex. As they go through adolescence and explore their sexuality you start off with "what will they do" and end up asking "what won't they do" in their quest to figure out who they are and prove to everyone who they aren't. I have to know what happens next and I doubt I'll sleep until I do.

I've read some of these reviews and wanted to laugh. You want gentle pants and no hair outta place maybe you should be reading Barbara Cartland. Not that Cartland is a bad read, just a little to YA for my taste. You want hot, melt in your mouth twisty and slick, this is your book. And the following 2 which I purchased the second after I finished this one. i love these charry's and being southern born and southern bred and when I die I'll be southern dead I know them. Felt them, tasted them, breathed them into my brain and let them explode out of my heart. I love Shelby, I wish she was my best friend. Hell and Caroline too for that matter, I wanna kick back on the front porch with a glass of sweet tea and talk about boys, hot nights and fast cars. I hope there are more of this series pumping the hemi in the authors brain right now, cause I'll damn sure be buying them!
I'll be honest up front, I'm breaking SOP review rules. You're supposed to read book 1, review book 1, read 2, review 2, and so on. This...it ain't that. For a good reason but I promise not spoil anything. Do NOT start this series unless you're in till the finish line. Reading book 1 of this series and stopping because it's full of uncomfortableness, ugliness, manipulations, betrayals, and is certainly not your fluffy romantic HEA book...that's a crying shame and a disservice to yourself. Make no mistake, it is all ^those things, but the ride is worth the price of admission. By book 2, you're rounding a curve and flying into a straight-away that makes you think you know where you're going. Your heart is invested, things that make your society-trained head cringe make your body purr like a Hannah-built engine, but even then...you don't know yet. By book 3, you start with the finish line in sight, but the wheels slip and you roll end-over-end, changing your perspective with every flip and receiving new insights into the characters, the story, the meaning, and get to the actual heart of the story. I almost had to call into work during book 3, bc something awful happened to my family...my Hannah family. I just couldn't leave their sides at such an important time. But Hannah's don't quit, so neither did I, just did what needed done.

Shelby Hannah changed me through the pages of these books. By knowing her, I am a better person and for damn sure, a better woman. So yeah, start book 1, read with your hands over your eyes, cringing through the rough stuff because that's what gives us edges, both smooth and sharp. The journey in these pages (all 3 books worth) was a journey I'm so glad I took. Thank you Eden Connor for both destroying and re-building my heart with your words--the raunchiest dirty ones, the slickly smart ones, and the poetically insightful ones. ❤️
I think I'm just going to call this my "week of dark reads" because I am on a roll and this book is yet again, another OMG-what-did-I-just-read moment.
I got a kick out of the author's message to the readers at the beginning of the book because frankly she spoke the truth and so I went into this book just expecting to have a steamy hot and probably inappropriate good time, and wasn't expecting to like it as much as I did.
A high school senior who moves in with her mother's new hubby and his very alpha hot sons, set the stage for some sexy fireworks and I was not disappointed at all. The story burned up the pages of my kindle...both the sexual activites that these boys put their step-sister through as well as the car racing scenes and the adrenaline rush of the chase.
A shocking and disturbing twist near the end throws everything into a tailspin and the book ends with a new start but with broken hearts and lots of unanswered questions.
An awesome free book (right now) and I can't wait for the next one to get those answers I crave.
